Volunteer Groups

Volunteers participate in a range of Council services including tourism information, social support, transport, research, audits, tutoring, environmental initiatives, customer service, libraries and community centres. Many of these services would not operate without the support of volunteers.

Archives Volunteers

● Volunteers assist with processing of the City's archival records to improve access to them.

BMX Track Volunteers

● Volunteers assist in maintaining the Kurrangga Park BMX Tracks to a standard that meets user expectations.

Community Centre Volunteers

Volunteers provide support in the following areas:

● Administration
● Reception
● Planning and development of projects and events
● Activity facilitation e.g. English conversation; Computer tutoring, Craft groups, Walking groups
● Curating arts exhibitions

There are three Community Centres in the Adelaide City Council area:

● Adelaide South West Community Centre, 171 Sturt Street, Adelaide (Staffed Hours: weekdays 9-5)
● Box Factory Community Centre, 59 Regent Street South, Adelaide (Staffed Hours: weekdays 4pm – 9pm)
● North Adelaide Community Centre, 176 Tynte Street, North Adelaide (Staffed Hours: weekdays 9-5)

Event volunteers

● Volunteers welcome patrons of events, provide information and direction and ensure that the venue is accessible and safe.

Golf Links Maintenance Volunteers

● Volunteers assist staff in the preparation of Adelaide's golf courses to industry standards.

Graffiti Spotters

● Volunteers identify and report graffiti, illegal Bill Posters and stickers spotted on the City's buildings and infrastructure in Adelaide and North Adelaide.

Home and Community Care Volunteers

Services are provided to frail aged and younger disabled City residents and their carers. Services include basic home support, transport to medical and hospital appointments, bill paying, shopping, referral and advocacy.

Volunteers provide support in the following areas:

● Drive a van transporting eligible HACC clients to selected social groups
● Providing door to door transport and support for shopping at the Central Market

Justices of the Peace Volunteers

● Volunteers provide support by exercising the powers confered to them under various Acts with respect to documents that people use for official or legal purposes.

Library Volunteers

The Library and Community Centres have a growing number of exciting volunteer programs that involve the community and add value to library services.

  • Library Home Services

Volunteers select and deliver library materials to housebound City residents. The service operates from 25 Pirie Street Adelaide.

  • Library Volunteer

Volunteers provide support to the Library Staff ensuring best practice delivery of library services & excellence in customer service.
Duties include shelving and maintaining order of bookshelves, preparation of returns, processing new library items.

  • Library Program & Events Volunteer

Volunteers provide support to the Library Staff and ensure the provision of best practice delivery of library programs and events such as,
but not limited to Community Selections, Author/Book Talks, Children’s programs and Book Sales.

 

Park Lands and Community Gardening Volunteers

● Volunteers assist the Adelaide City Council in its ongoing efforts to enhance and preserve biodiversity by planting local native vegetation, removing invasive weeds and monitoring flora and fauna. Areas are restored by enhancing remnant vegetation which helps preserve biodiversity.

● Volunteers assist in Council's nursery and with maintaining street and community gardens.

Rundle Mall Shuttle Drivers

● Volunteers provide a safe, effective transport for elderly people and those who require assistance by driving them in the free Rundle Mall Shuttle buggy to either ends of the Mall.

Visitor Information Service Volunteers

Volunteers provide support in the following tourism programs:

● Information Providers at the Rundle Mall Visitor Information Centre and the Central Market Information Booth
● Adelaide Greeters  'meet and greet'  tourists
● Tour Guides ('First Steps in Adelaide' orientation walk and the Adelaide Town Hall)
● City Guides roving through Adelaide's streets.
