Progressive Adelaide as it Stands Today: A Pictorial Directory of its most Attractive Centres was published in 1936 by G.H. Baring, to help celebrate South Australia’s centenary year.
Progressive Adelaide provides a rich and fascinating insight into 1930s South Australia, comprising a series of detailed streetscape photographs and numerous advertisements for local businesses. In the words of the publisher:
"The main object of this publication is to give visitors and citizens authentic information regarding Business Houses and Commercial Establishments, and at the same time place before them Illustrations of some noteworthy Streets, Places of Interest, and Beauty Spots, which Nature has provided in Sunny South Australia."
