The Lord Mayor of Adelaide

A town planner with 20 years in State and Local Government and an MBA, Stephen’s business is cities. Stephen’s vision for Adelaide is a modern, vibrant and sustainable place to do business, live and enjoy life. Stephen believes an economy based on innovation, education, arts and culture will make Adelaide prosperous. Stephen is committed to excellence in customer service and a culture of optimism, teamwork and efficiency. Stephen plans to work hard to ensure federal, state and local government work in partnership with businesses and the community so that Adelaide realises its full potential.
Stephen was first elected to the Adelaide City Council as Central Ward Councillor in October 2007 and was Deputy Lord Mayor from November 2008 – 2009. He has been a member of the Adelaide Development Assessment Panel, Adelaide Central Market Committee, Adelaide High School Governing Council and is the Presiding Member of the Local Government Association committee overseeing the State/Local Government Climate Change Sector Agreement. He has also has served terms on the Capital City Committee and Adelaide Convention and Tourism Authority.
Stephen has post-graduate qualifications in Regional and Urban Planning and Environmental Studies and has recently completed a Masters in Business Administration at Adelaide University. He has worked in the South Australian Parliament as a researcher and was the Principal Planner at the City of Playford for 6 years. He has also researched/lectured in Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand, India, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand on environment and development planning and management, as well as studying future cities in Japan's technology city Tsukuba.
