Susan Clearihan
North Ward Councillor

First elected to the Adelaide City Council in 2003 and re-elected for the 2010–2014 term as North Ward representative, Councillor Clearihan has been a resident of the City of Adelaide for more than 30 years. She has been appointed as Chair of Adelaide City Council’s City Community Services, Events and Facilities Committee, to represent Council on the Adelaide Festival Centre Trust, the Board of Education Adelaide and the North Adelaide Community Centre Management Committee. She is also the Local Government Association representative on the Adelaide Cemeteries Authority and is a member of the Local Government Emergency Management Committee.
She worked as a teacher for 22 years (1973–1995) including serving for four years as an Education Officer at the Art Gallery of SA (1984–1987), and from 1996–1997 as a community engagement consultant for various organisations including the Adelaide City Council.
From 1997–2004, Susan coordinated the Crime Prevention and Community Safety program for a large metropolitan Council. She worked with business, developers, residents, government and agencies to address crime and safety concerns in the community.
As an active member of her community for many years, Susan’s extensive record of service includes: Spokesperson for the North Adelaide Residents Group (1993–1996); Coordinator of Area 313 Neighbourhood Watch (1994–1997); foundation Chairperson of the North Adelaide Community Centre (1998–2002); Committee member of the North Adelaide Society (1996–1997); Board member of the Bowden Brompton Community Legal Service (1998–2001); and Board member of the Come Out Youth Arts Festival.
