Town Hall bells mourning for sister-city Christchurch
| Released: 22/02/2012 |
The bells of the Adelaide Town Hall will be rung half-muffled today one year on from the devastating earthquake in Christchurch.
The bells will be rung 185 times in memory of every life lost. It will begin at 10.21am Adelaide time (12.51pm Christchurch time), the exact time the earthquake hit this time last year, and will last for approximately 10 minutes.
Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood invites anyone hearing the bells to pause and reflect on the tragic loss of life in Christchurch.
“Today’s peal is from the heart of Adelaide to the heart of Christchurch,” Stephen said.
“The earthquake completely devastated the city and we send our sympathy to all New Zealanders on this dark day.”
