This Policy and associated Action Plan recognise the richness of Aboriginal cultures and the unique skills and knowledge that Aboriginal staff bring to Adelaide City Council and to the City. Through this Policy, Council demonstrates its commitment to the improvement of social and economic opportunities for Aboriginal people through employment and development opportunities.

» Access and Inclusion Strategy (PDF, 400KB)
The Access and Inclusion Strategy sets out the Council’s commitment to making the City a welcoming and inclusive place for people of all abilities to enjoy.

The Strategy aims to complement the directions of South Australian and Australian Government policy and help Council move toward a best practice model for access and inclusion planning, with a particular focus on better outcomes for people with disability. It provides a strategic framework that will guide Council staff and partners in the development of key actions within each program area (department) of Council through annual planning.

» Active City (Recreation and Sport) Policy (PDF, 232Kb)
The Active City Policy will guide Council’s provision of opportunities for the community to be active, maintain their health and participate in recreation and community sports activities, consistent with Council’s vision of creating a vibrant, populous and sustainable City.

The Policy will influence the planning, design and build of the City and inform the provision of recreation and sport facilities, the delivery of programs and events and the creation of open spaces within the City, in order to create opportunities for people to be engaged in an active lifestyle.

This Action Plan positions the City and Adelaide City Council to conserve and sustainably manage its ecological systems including watercourses, with a focus on management of remnant vegetation and fauna in the Adelaide Park Lands and improvement of water quality in the Torrens Lake.

» Community Land Management Plans
Adelaide City Council is required under the Local Government Act to prepare Community Land Management Plans (CLMPs) for community land including the Adelaide Park Lands. These assessments were commissioned by Council for each and every park and provide a comprehensive analysis of the elements and features currently found in each park.

Outdoor dining encourages an increased social and cultural life within the City, providing a heightened sense of identity, animation, security and relaxation. To facilitate outdoor dining, Council has a process of issuing permits to cafes, restaurants and delicatessens for the use of part of the footpath space in front of their premises. However, Council must also consider other competing uses of City footpaths and is keen to establish a practical balance among the various user groups.

The Park Lands Ten Year Action Plan was developed by Council to plan ahead for the Park Lands over the next ten years, based on projects identified through the Adelaide Park Lands Management Strategy: Towards 2020 .

» Park Lands Landscape Masterplan (PDF, 10.4MB)
The Adelaide Park Lands Landscape Master Plan provides landscape direction for management of the Park Lands.  It was endorsed in April 2011, as a result of a recommendation from the Adelaide Park Lands Management Strategy which recognised the need for landscape management for the entire system of Park Lands. 

The Master Plan has determined a set of Guiding Principles for the landscape of the Park Lands, and divides the Park Lands into four zones as shown below, providing a vision and planting directions for each zone, while recognising the importance of the unity of the Park Lands.

The Adelaide Park Lands Act 2005 required the Adelaide Park Lands Authroity to develop the Adelaide Park Lands Management Strategy which was endorsed by the State Government as well as Council in April 2010.  It repalces an earlier document prepared in 1999 and provides comprehensive management directions on all aspects of the Park Lands.
