As defined in the Development Plan available via Department Planning and Local Government. State and Local heritage places are identified in each Zone and Policy area in the Development Plan.
The Heritage Places list (PDF, 1Mb) is a list of all places, both buildings and other structures (such as statues) designated within the Development Plan as either a State Heritage place or a Local Heritage place. This list is from Department of Planning and Local Government and was collated on 11 March 2011. As such, this list contains address, certificate of title and descriptive information extracted from the Development Plan dated 24 February 2011.

Council's 3D Model enables viewing of heritage places, as well as many other features.
State Government's Department of Planning and Local Government contains a Heritage Places database tool (see under Development Plan) to create a range of lists of heritage places. Lists developed via this tool are based on information maintained by them.
State Heritage Place
Is a place listed on the State Heritage Register under the Heritage Act 1993. A State Heritage Place is a place which contributes to South Australia's architectural, social, technological or scientific history and comprises the whole of the place, including the interior. A State Heritage Place must meet one or more of the criteria listed in Section 16 of the Heritage Act 1993.

Local Heritage Place (City Significance)
Is a place that positively contributes to the heritage value of the City of Adelaide due to its history, architectural and design qualities, built form character and integrity. The heritage value generally comprises the substantial whole of the building, including the interior.
Heritage Information Sheets are available for State and City Significance properties. The sheets include photographs, historical overview and curtilage plan, illustrating the extent of heritage value of the place. Contact Liz Caris on 8203 7445 for more information.
Local Heritage Places
In North Adelaide, all local heritage listings are known as Local Heritage Places. The elements of the building that are considered to be of heritage value are identified in the Table of Local Heritage Places contained in the Development Plan. A Local Heritage Place must meet one or more criteria in section 23(4) of the Development Act 1993. When assessing development applications, Council has regard to the Development Plan's description of the place.
Building Data Sheets are available for all Local Heritage Places in North Adelaide. These sheets (attached below) were prepared as part of the North Adelaide Heritage Survey in 2004. The sheets provide the reasons why the building has been identified as a local heritage place.

Local Heritage Place (Townscape)
Is a place that positively contributes to the townscape character of the area and generally comprises the frontage and side wall returns of the place that are visible from the street.
