Christmas in Adelaide

The City of Adelaide offers up a hive of activity during the Christmas season. The days get longer and the weather gets warmer, and a sense of fun and excitement hangs in the air.

The Christmas season kicks off each year with the Credit Union Christmas Pageant. Over 320,000 people come to watch 61 floats and just over 170 moving performing sets wind their way through the City streets, leading the way for the final float carrying a very special guest, Father Christmas atop his beautiful sleigh.

Throughout November and December a number of Christmas events and activities get underway, including the Christmas Proms at the Adelaide Festival Centre, Carols by Candlelight on the banks of the River Torrens before finishing with the bang with New Year’s Eve festivities on December 31.

The City also offers a number of department stores, boutiques and speciality stores to get your Christmas shopping including Rundle Mall, the East End, the Adelaide Central Market, Hutt Street and O’Connell Street and Melbourne Street in North Adelaide. Plenty of Christmas cheer can also be found in the wide range of restaurants, bars, cafes and hotels, with many hosting Christmas menus and specials.
