Library Services
The Adelaide City Libraries provide a wide variety of services to residents of the City of Adelaide and its members in the wider metropolitan area.
After joining the library members can access:
● Our large collection of fiction, non-fiction, DVDs, CDs, eBooks and Magazines, as well as access to items from any participating library in the One Card Network S.A.
● Online services including Internet, eLearning online and the online catalogue.
Print impaired
These audio books are available on CDs and cassette tapes, for people who are unable to read due to a disability. We have a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books available.
To become a hear-a-book customer, proof of your disability is needed:
● A letter from your doctor/specialist
● A bus pass for the blind
● A Centrelink Pension card indicating a visual impairment disability.
Returns
24 hour returns chutes are located outside each Library centre. Items can be returned to any participating Library in the One Card Network S.A.
Borrowing
Number of items
Temporary members: 5 items at any one time
Full members: 100 items at any one time across theOne Card Network with the following limits:
10 Audio Books, 5 Language Kits, 30 DVDs, 1 Fast Flick, 2 Rapid Reads
All members: 4 eBooks
Borrowing Periods
Fast Flicks: 7 days
DVDs, CDs, magazines and Rapid Reads: 14 days
Books, audiobooks and language kits: 28 days
eBooks: 7, 14 or 21 days (you can choose)
Loan Extensions
Two extensions are available on items that are not on hold, except for eBooks and inter-library loan items.
Extensions may be done in person, online, by email or by phoning during opening hours. Fines will apply if items are already overdue when extended.
How to Borrow
Take your membership card and selections to the self check out. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. Staff members are available to assist if you have any problems using the self check out.
Reminders
A receipt listing your return dates can be printed or emailed when you borrow. You can also receive an email reminder three days prior to the due date.
Home Library services
Adelaide City Council's homebound residents can avail our free home delivery service, run by Library staff and volunteers.
Meeting Rooms
Both our Hutt Street and Grote Street centres have meeting rooms available for booking. Click Hutt Street or Grote Street for booking information.
Internet & Computer Facilities
All our centres have computer and Internet facilities. To make a booking, please contact the Library.
Photocopying/Faxing
Photocopying, printing and faxing services are available at all library centres.
The copying machines at all Centres are self service and operate using either a customer's library card. Value is added using a dispenser near the copier in each centre. For additional assistance and information see library centre staff.
Charges for photocopying and printing from computer are as follows (per page):
● A4 size B&W: $0.15
● A4 size colour: $2
● A3 size B&W: $0.30
● A3 size colour: $4
Fax charges are as follows (per page, outgoing):
● International: $6
● Interstate: $2.50
● Local: $1.20
Incoming faxes are $1.20 per page. To send a fax you need to bring your document plus the fax number (including all area codes) to the information desk.
Book Sales
Each Centre has a small selection of stock for sale on an ongoing basis. The Recycled Reads sidewalk sale takes place on the last Wednesday of the month from 11:30am – 2:30pm at the Customer Centre, 25 Pirie St. The North Tce book sale runs on the last Friday of the month from 11:30am – 2:30pm.
