The Adelaide City Libraries aim to provide traditional Library services as well as other services of interest to the community, such as:
- Fully equipped community spaces where groups can meet during business hours, evenings and weekends.
- A range of Adelaide City Council services including the ability to pay rates, permits and fines.
The Adelaide City Libraries provide a wide variety of services to residents of the City of Adelaide and its members in the wider metropolitan area.
After joining the library members can access:
- Our large collection of fiction and non-fiction material in print and audio-visual format.
- Online services including Internet, selected databases and on-line catalogues.
- Services to minority groups such as people with a disability (including the visually impaired), and people from non-English speaking backgrounds.
- Other resources and training.
Borrowing
You may have 30 items in total on loan at any one time with the following limits:
- 5 CD-Roms
- 8 Cassettes
- 8 Audio Books
- 2 Language Kits
Borrowing Periods
- DVDs and magazines = 7 Days
- Videos, CDs, CDRoms = 14 Days
- All other items = 28 Days
How to Borrow
Take your membership card and selections to the self check out computer. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. Staff members will be ready to assist if you have any problems using the self check out computer.
Reminders
A receipt listing your return dates will be printed when you borrow. This is your only reminder.
Loan Extensions
One extension is available on items that are not requested, except for inter-library loan items. Extensions may be done in person, by phoning during opening hours by email or on-line. Fines will apply if items are overdue when extended.
Delivery Service
The Library can arrange delivery within the metropolitan area (including Mt Barker, Sellicks Beach and Gawler). The cost for delivery is $6.00 per parcel up to 20kg. The cost is added to your Library card and is payable within 28 days.
To use the delivery service you must have:
- An active library card.
- A delivery address where the driver can hand the parcel to you or someone authorised by you.
Please note that parcels cannot be left at an unattended address. An additional $3.95 fee will be added to your library card for any undeliverable parcel. The return of items to the library is your responsibility.
Print impaired
Print Impaired are books read onto cassette tapes and CDs for use by people who are unable to read due to a disability. The Adelaide City Library service has a wide range of fiction and non-fiction Hear-a-books.
To become a hear-a-book customer proof of your disability is needed. This can be:
- A letter from your doctor/specialist
- A bus pass for the blind
- A Centrelink Pension card indicating a visual impairment disability

Meeting Rooms

Internet & Computer Facilities
All branches have computer & Internet facilities. For more information, or to make a booking please contact the library.
Photocopying / Faxing
Photocopying, printing and faxing services are available at all library centres.
The copying machines at all Centres are self service and operate using either a customer's library card or any other card with a magnetic strip on the back, for example credit cards and Medicare cards, to which copy value has been added. Value is added using a dispenser near the copier in each centre. For more information or assistance with using the copier machines please see library centre staff.
Charges for photocopying and printing from computer are as follows (per page):
- A3 size B&W $0.30
- A3 size colour $3.00
- A4 size B&W $0.20
- A4 size colour $2.00
To utilise the fax service you must bring your document plus the fax number (including all area codes) to the information desk.
Fax charges are as follows (per page, outgoing)
- International $6.00
- Interstate $2.50
- Local $1.20
Incoming faxes are $1.20 per page.
Book Sales
The Adelaide City Library Service holds regular sales of old and excess stock. To find out when the next book sale is being held just, call 8203 7990.
In addition, each Centre has a small selection of stock for sale on an ongoing basis.
