Splash Adelaide is a program jointly funded by Adelaide City Council and the State Government, and is designed to bring the city’s streets and spaces alive in a series of pilot experiments.

The pilot projects will allow both businesses and the public to experience new concepts and ideas for the city to trial whether they will work in the long term.

Some of the experiments over the summer include:

• extended outdoor dining areas or footpath lounges
• encouraging food carts in new locations around the city
• street parties and road closures to create more people space
• plazas popping up in underused spaces, streets and squares
• new ways to experience the streets: deck chairs, table tennis tables, outdoor cinemas, markets and more

I’m a business or community group and I have an idea…

Splash Adelaide will work with applicants to support an idea through cutting red tape where we can, waiving normal fees, or other types of support for a larger project that benefits the community and partners with other city businesses. Splash Adelaide can help motivated businesses and individuals to make city experiments happen quickly.

Splash Adelaide proposals that run between 13 February and 31 March may now be submitted.

We particularly welcome any projects in the Capital City Committee’s priority zone, bounded by North Terrace, West Terrace, Currie Street, Grenfell Street and Pulteney Street.

To become a Splash partner between January and March 2012, follow these steps:

1. Check that your project meets the guidelines.

To ensure the safety of city residents, business pilots must comply with the project guidelines (PDF, 107Kb). Applications must also include a current copy of Public Liability Insurance for the amount of $20,000,000.

2. Complete the Pilot Project Application Form (PDF, 54Kb).

3. Provide a sketch showing the current conditions and proposed layout of the pilot project.

Please submit the completed form and sketch to:

Splash Adelaide,
Adelaide City Council,
GPO Box 2252,
Adelaide SA 5001

The Splash Adelaide program will also consider pilot proposals that fall outside these guidelines on a project-by-project basis. Please contact the team to find out if your idea is one that can be supported by Splash Adelaide.
