Collection Of Monies

Anyone can apply for a permit to conduct a survey or petition, or have goods on-street.

Charity organisations may apply for a permit to collect money, pledges or goods on-street. Wednesdays is the only designated day for collection of monies, pledges or goods on-street.

You must submit with your application for Surveys & Petitions:

● A copy of the survey or petition and for what purpose it is being collected.
● Evidence of your public liability insurance ($10million).
● Evidence that the organisation is an “Approved Charity Organisation” (for collection of monies/pledges or goods).

Conditions

CONDUCT OF SURVEY OR PETITION ON-STREET

1. The activity shall be conducted for a single period of no longer than two hours in a day and no more than two people can be grouped at the same location.
2. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to ensure that any related material dropped in the area is picked up, so that the area is left in a neat and tidy condition.
3. The permit applies to the allocated sites only as outlined in Locations - there are strictly ten (1) locations suitable for the collection of surveys and petitions.
4. Instructions issued by Council or Police Officers must be obeyed without exception.
5. The permit holder must carry with them a copy of the permit and show it to Council and/or Police Officers on demand.
6. No obstruction is to be caused to pedestrian traffic.
7. The Permit is not valid until the relevant fees have been paid.
8. All conditions of the permit must be adhered to. Failure to comply with the conditions automatically revokes the permit and the activity must cease immediately.
9. The permitted activity is confined to the immediate vicinity of the permitted location.
10. Pedestrians are not to be approached or harassed. They must come to you.
11. The interviewers must clearly state the purpose for which Petitioners are being sought.
12. The interviewers must wear an identifying label stating their name and the name of the organisation conducting the petition.
13. This permit gives permission for the permit holder and is not transferable to any other person.
14. The activity shall not continue past the date of expiry of this permit. If it is desired to continue the activity a new application needs to be lodged with Council and a new permit obtained. A fee may apply for the newly obtained permit.
15. The Council reserves the right to revoke the permit at any time.

COLLECTION OF MONIES, PLEDGES & GOODS ON-STREET

1. Wednesdays are the only designated “Collection Day” that “Approved Organisations” are permitted to collect monies, pledges or goods (including the sale of raffle tickets) in the public domain.
2. Each “Approved Organisation” can use a maximum of four separate days per calendar year for the collection of monies pledges or goods. This can be applied and paid for in advance or prior to each separate occasion.
3. Collection Days will not be allocated to organisations in the week leading up to Anzac Day an Remembrance Day unless directly associated with the event.
4. Every effort will be made to give each applicant the date they have requested, but no guarantees can be made. Where it is not possible to allocate the desired date, an alternative will be offered.
5. The “Collection Days” will be allocated as the applications are received.
6. The permit applies to the allocated sites only as outlined in Locations - there are strictly ten (1) locations suitable for the collection of monies, pledges or goods.

8. It may be necessary for “Approved Organisations” to share a “Collection Day”. A maximum of two (2) organisations may share the same “Collection Day”. In this event contact details will be supplied to both parties to organise their locations.

17. The interviewers/collectors must clearly state the purpose for which the collection/pledge is being sought.

19. This permit gives permission for the permit holder only and is not transferable to any other person(s) or organisation.
20. Pamphlets/leaflets or any kind of literature are not to be distributed.
21. The activity shall not continue past the date of expiry of this permit. If it is desired to continue the activity a new application needs to be lodged with Adelaide City Council and a new permit obtained. A fee may apply for the newly obtained permit.
22. The Council reserves the right to revoke this permit at any time.
