Depasturing Of Horses

Depasturing is a different service to Agistment. Depasturing is grazing off the natural resources of the land. Council does not provide food or shelter for the horses. The licence holder is required to look after their horses and tend to their needs on a daily basis.

Eligibility

Adelaide City Council permits a maximum of 20 horses to be kept in Nanto Womma (PDF, 386Kb) (Park 6) in North Adelaide.

A Depasturing licence is restricted to one horse per person. The applicant must reside within 2 kilometres of Nanto Womma (Park 6):

How to Apply

The Depasturing Licence (PDF, 204Kb) period is from 1 September to 31 August each year and is renewed annually.

The applicant must provide the following information annually:

● Completed application form.
● Certificate of Currency showing $10 million Public Liability Insurance and naming Adelaide City Council as an Interested Party.
● A certified recent vet check.
● Provide 3 photos of the horse from different angles (only on initial application).
● Complete a form regarding the horses distinguishing features (only on initial application).
● Removal of Dead Stock.

Costs

There is a fee for depasturing a horse in the Park Lands. This is invoiced on a quarterly basis. The fee increases each year in line with CPI.

The Adelaide City Council’s Park Lands Ranger will assist the successful applicant in moving the horse into the paddock and coordinates the day to day operation of the paddock.

Conditions

● The licence holder is required to comply with the terms and conditions of the Depasturing Licence.
● The licence holder is required to liaise with the Park Lands Ranger for the day to day operation and requirements for the horse paddock.
● The licence holder is required to attend to the needs of their horse on a daily basis.
