Free Samples & Promotions

Free samples and promotion permits are an approval enabling the distribution of free samples to the general public and/or promotional activities in the public realm.

For the purpose of definition free sample refers to any product such as yoghurt, packet soup, chocolates etc being given away, with no obligation placed on the person accepting the sample.

Eligibility

Anyone can apply for a Free Samples and Promotion permit.

You must submit with your completed application form:

● An example of the sample to be distributed;
● A Certificate of Currency of your Public Indemnity Insurance;
● Map showing location(s) (in line with conditions);
● Plan showing setup of structures (applies to promotions only);
● Mobile advertising – required to provide a sample/details/example of advertising material

● Outside the railway station on North Terrace
● The City Squares
● The tram barn at Victoria Square

The venue for promotional activities will be considered on the merit of each application.

Conditions

Free Samples

1. The distribution of samples will not be approved in the public domain without an authorised permit issued by an Adelaide City Council Approvals Officer.
2. The permit is not valid until the relevant fees have been paid. The fee as determined in Adelaide City Council’s Fees & Charges Schedule is payable on a per day and per location basis.
3. Approved applications shall be conducted for a single period no longer than two hours in a day and no more than two people can be grouped at the same location.
4. The product (sample) being distributed must not be in a direct conflict/competition to the local business.
5. Areas available for sample distribution are:
— The tram barn at Victoria Square
— Outside the Railway station on North Terrace
— The City Squares
6. Instructions issued by authorised Council or Police Officers must be obeyed without exception.
7. No obstruction is to be caused to pedestrian traffic.
8. All conditions of the permit must be adhered to. Failure to comply with the conditions automatically revokes the permit.

Advertising / Promotion

1. The distribution of advertising material will not be approved in the public domain without an authorized permit issued by an Adelaide City Council Approvals Officer.
2. The permit is not valid until the relevant fees have been paid. The fee is payable on a per day and per location basis.
3. Approved applications shall be conducted for a single period no longer than two hours in a day and no more than two people can be grouped at the same location
4. Mobile advertising may be commercial – other forms of commercial advertising are prohibited.
5. Instructions issued by authorised Council or Police Officers must be obeyed without exception.
6. No obstruction is to be caused to pedestrian traffic.
7. All conditions of the permit must be adhered to. Failure to comply with the conditions automatically revokes the permit.
8. The person wearing the advertising material must carry the permit with them and show it to Council and or Police Officers on demand.
9. This permit is for wearing advertising material only and does not allow the wearer and or any person/s accompanying said wearer, to distribute advertising material and/or use voice and or sound advertising of any kind.
