Where does your Garbage go?
The Adelaide City Council’s household garbage is baled and sent to a landfill. Please help reduce the waste by separating waste and recycling as much as possible.
Why are some items not recyclable?
- Some items are made from a variety of materials that cannot be separated (chocolate and chip packets have plastic outer with an aluminium inner).
- Ceramics, window glass and mirrors have a different melting point to ordinary glass.
- Videotapes, strapping, string and rope can get caught in machinery, causing breakdowns.
- Broken glass, nappies and dirty pot plant containers can be an occupational health and safety issue.
What if I don’t receive the Green Organics Service?
If you do not currently receive the Green Organics Service and would like to find out more, please contact the Adelaide City Council Customer Centre on 8203 7203.
Alternatively, the Adelaide City Council operates a Green Waste Recycling Centre at the Nursery site on War Memorial Drive in North Adelaide. The centre also sells a range of mulches and compost. To enquire about this service, please call 8203 7502.
What if I need to recycle large items or quantities?
The Council operates a Green Waste Recycling Centre for dumping organic matter, that is free for Adelaide City residents. The centre also houses a nursery that sells mulch, compost and annual plants.
Additional hard rubbish meant for recycling can be disposed through the various services offered by the Wingfield Waste & Recycling Centre.
